DEEPENING CONNECTIONS THROUGH UNDIVIDED ATTENTION
Part 2: Deepening Connections Through Undivided Attention
The greatest gift you can give another human being is your complete, unhurried attention. In a culture driven by constant digital stimulation, real presence has become a rare form of currency. When we listen to someone while secretly checking our notifications or planning our reply, we communicate that they are secondary to our distraction.
Presence changes relationships because it creates a container for safety and deep listening. When you show up fully for conversations, conflict softens, empathy deepens, and small daily interactions turn into genuine connection.
Practicing Relational Presence
Put the screen face-down: In conversations, physically remove devices from your field of vision.
Listen without fixing: Resist the urge to jump in with advice; simply listen to understand.
Notice micro-expressions: Pay attention to the posture, tone, and eyes of the people you interact with.
